An Intimate Woodland Wedding: A Styled Shoot

Autumn leaves fall, sun low in the sky, time for gathering close and enjoying the feast that harvest brings.

Our Macramé backdrop hangs from the branch of a tree, awaiting vows of love to be spoken. The soft focal point settles gently amongst the beautiful nature that fills the woodland setting.  Offset candelabras add a sense of romance to the space.

An intimate supper for two follows nestled amongst moss covered trees and softly falling leaves.  The table is dressed with antique metallics, antlers, sumptuous roses, protea and foraged foliage.  Hampers laden with seasonal fruits and vegetables add to the sense of the season. A poetry book lies open awaiting sonnets to be uttered lovingly.

Jen and Rich’s Romantic Fortress Wedding

One of the most romantic venues in Cornwall,  Polhawn Fort stands in an area of outstanding natural beauty on the Rame Peninsula.

Jenny and Rich’s elegant summer wedding took full advantage of all this stunning place has to offer.

We first started chatting with Jenny about her wedding back in Summer 2015.  She had so many fantastic ideas for hers and Rich’s day and it was an absolute pleasure working all the little details through with her.

The couple were married in a local church, before inviting guests to their cliff top fortress for a fun filled, foodie reception.

The couple chose to set up a rustic drinks station for their guests to enjoy self-serving their own summer drinks.  Drinks jars for cocktails, tin baths as ice buckets, create an on-trend look.

Outdoor seating continued the rustic vibe with hay bales encircling a fire pit.  Jenny chose to top the bales with our hessian sacks for a little extra comfort for guests.

Our Seaside Peep Board, fete and lawn games were set up on Polhawn’s lower terrace.  They went down a storm with young and old alike, and created plenty of laughter.

A DIY photobooth was created in an arched doorway.  Jenny hung our gold frame and used our fancy dress suitcase for guests to snap some memorable photos!

Dancing the night away to live music rounded off the incredible day, our illuminated BAR sign adding to the atmosphere of the evenings festivities.

Congratulations Jen and Rich xx

Rustic Meets Vintage for Laura and Reece

Laura and Reece first made contact with us at the brilliant Wed Magazine wedding fair at Boconnoc all the way back in spring 2015.  We met again a few weeks later to discuss plans for their wedding, and boy were they organized!

Laura revealed to me that she was four months pregnant and the wedding would be happening in the summer of 2016 to give themselves time to adjust to life as new parents.  Before their baby daughters arrival they had already saved and planned their entire wedding so all that had to be done was relax and enjoy parenthood!

We chatted at length about their wedding plans, an outdoor ceremony taking place at Trevenna Barns the edge of Bodmin Moor.  They used our Festoon Poles to mark the start of their aisle with hampers filled with confetti for guests.

They chose a number of games to keep big kids and small amused whilst the drinks reception took place on the lovely lawn terraces before heading in to Trevenna’s permanent marquee for the wedding breakfast.

Laura and Reece chose to decorate their tables with our vintage glass bottles, enamel jugs and birdcages, all filled with florals.  Our Victorian Scales, Retro Typewriter, Gramophone, Tin Horse, and Luggage all added vintage touches to their day.

All the best to both of you!

Anna and Jonathan’s Country House Wedding

The marriage of Anna and Jonathan took place at the picture perfect St Clement Church near Truro.  The couple hosted their reception at Scorrier House, a beautiful country house which offers couples exclusive use for weddings.

Anna’s vision was one of elegance and sophistication with some vintage touches running throughout the styling. We worked with Anna for many months, exchanging emails about all the fine details until everything was just perfect!

Following the church service, guests were invited to meander through the historic gardens of Scorrier House, guided by our traditional signage, to the drinks reception.  Our Rustic Bar awaited them laid out with bubbly and canapés, whilst our Gramophone prop sat upon our Writing Desk (cleverly concealing speakers creating the illusion!).

Garden games were enjoyed before guests headed inside for the wedding breakfast and dancing!  Our illuminated BAR sign looked at home behind Scorrier House’s purpose built bar area, and created a fun vibe for the evenings festivities.

See Our Collection In Person

Since our launch in 2014 we have been evolving the Box and Cox collection and quickly out growing all the rented spaces we’ve occupied.  This summer, during our busiest ever month, we made the move into our largest space to date.  From our rural 19th Century stone barn we are now able to offer our clients the opportunity to view the Box and Cox collection in person.

Our online catalogue still remains the most popular way of seeing our collection, but for those who want to chat, play about with ideas, and see our larger items like our wedding archways, assembled, the new space offers a terrific opportunity.

The photos of the new space are thanks to the wonderful Anna Burt at Exposure Photo Agency. One of the great benefits of working within Weddings and Events is you meet so many wonderful and talented folk.  Anna and her husband Simon Burt are seasoned wedding photographers, who also happen to have an extensive portfolio of commercial and journalistic photography.  It was an honour to work with Anna and we are thrilled with her images of our new space.  Thank you Anna!

Furniture To Suit Your Style

Whether you’re having an elegant country house soirée or a boho woodland wedding, your furniture choices are a great way to stamp some serious style.

Dressing Table Hire Box and Cox 5

Antique pieces like our Dressing Table are simply beautiful.  They can be used to display wedding cakes, sweeties, or perhaps a special place for your guest book.

Instead of using a hamper or basket, why not fill the drawers with snugly blankets and invite your guests to keep warm on chilly Cornish evenings.

Behind the scenes on the ‘It’s All About Love’ styled shoot

box and cox behind the scenesWhen you plan an outdoor wedding styled shoot, the very last thing you want to see is an amber severe weather warning for heavy rain and 80 mph wind, but unfortunately that’s what we got! We had to improvise and move the ceremony part of the shoot to the workshops at our shoot location, The Cornish Cutting Garden.

Our models were couple, Chloe and Sam, a real couple who are set to tie the knot in a matter of weeks. A real couple meant we could capture genuine moments of love and affection. Neither had modelled before, but did an amazing job and never once complained about being asked to stand for hours posing in the pouring rain!

behind the scenes groom

Our phenomenally talented photographer, Joanne Clement from Enchanted Brides, has a way of capturing both story and beauty in its raw state. Jo embraced a deluge of Cornish wind and rain to provide us with wonderfully atmospheric, love and laughter filled images!

The Cornish Cutting Garden gave us a wonderful setting for our shoot.  With both wild and nurtured spaces, horticulturalist and florist, Clare Webb, tends and grows all the foliage and flowers used in their wedding displays and arrangements.

Rustic Arch kiss Box&Cox

The large wooden archway was given an organic and romantic feel, and created the centrepiece for the shoot. Adorned by Clare from The Cornish Cutting Garden with beautiful foliage, herbs, moss, and in-season florals, the arch had glorious colour and texture.  Aged tin cans filled with bright spring blooms, willow balls, potted plants and an abundance of chalkboards gave the ceremony a budget friendly, stripped back look.

The beautiful stationary, embellished with sparkling glitter gold detail added a sense of luxury to the occasion. Honey, the superstar four legged ring barer, giant balloon and 1930s bicycle provided us with the opportunity to capture some playful moments and stolen kisses between our bride and groom. The traditional lemonade stand, festooned with pastel bunting, complimented the spring colours of the flowers and added to the sense of celebration.

Nothing beats a wedding in Cornwall.  Whether a chic city venue, rustic barn, or a manor by the sea, Cornwall has it all.

For us at Box and Cox, January and February are the months when brides and grooms start to make those final plans for their beautiful summer wedding.  As visions of croquet and Pimms on the lawn brighten the bleak winter days, enquiries and bookings for our games, vintage drinks stands, and deckchairs soar.

So just to wet your appetite for what can be expected from our 2016 couples, here’s a few of our favourites from last year! Enjoy!

Hotly Anticipated Wedding Trends for 2016

Weddings taking place in 2016 are predicted to be a far more luxurious party affair this year.  Metallic will be the most heavily featured colour, with both rose gold and copper cropping up in all styles of weddings.  Cakes, stationary, table arrangements and wedding attire will all be touched by metallic fever.

Other colours to feature include apricot, grey/blue and jewel tones.  When combined with glitter, captivating lighting, and absolutely everything monogrammed, 2016 is set to be exceptionally decedent.

The floral installation will be a big feature this year, with chandeliers, archways, and flower walls all creating a feast for the eyes.  The oversized bouquet, harking back to the decant 1920s will also be a popular choice.

Festival and whimsical style weddings continue to surge in popularity, with a real back to nature feel.  Think weather worn wood, outdoor ceremonies, tipi tents, hay bale seating, naked cakes, moss and wild flowers.

Stripes and chevrons as well as art deco geometric patterns will cross over between festival style and luxe city weddings, cropping up in table linens, cakes, décor and stationary.

Lemonade stand 1

Food and drinks stations will feature heavily, with bespoke cocktails, tapas and sharing platters all creating the party feel.

We’ve put together a Pintrest Board featuring all these key looks.  Take a look here.

To hire 2016’s top looks visit the Box and Cox website.

New Packages and Services

New for 2016, we’re introducing packages for games hire which includes on the day set up.  Designed to take a little of the strain, our packages not only offer a discount, but also saves clients having to worry about who’s going to set everything up.

Also new for this year is our Pack Away Package.  For those who are concerned about who’s going to take the responsibility and pack all our items up ready for collection, we make things simple.  For details, take a look at our website.

Finally, we are adding a number of beautiful wedding arches to our collection.  These either come with the option of set up or set up is included in the hire price.  We’ll work with florists to make sure they’re ready for the floral touch.
