A rustic wedding amongst the bluebells

It’s not very often that we have a personal connection with the couples we supply.  However, for the wedding of Nicky and Tom, we weren’t just suppliers, but very honoured to be guests too.

As a couple these two have quite a story.  To start they’re both ultra runners.  This means they  [insanely] go all over the country running 50 or 100mile marathons, often over mountains!  Tom has a very successful running business, Freedom Racing, where other super fit people join them for leisurely marathons along coast paths and moorlands!! Needless to say, we do not know them through running….they were our neighbours and we shared wine instead!

They became engaged three years ago, and would have been married by now if it wasn’t for Tom’s health.  Diagnosed with cancer, he became extremely unwell and there were some very dark days.  But his fitness and positive spirit saw him through and he’s thankfully a well man again.  For Nicky and Tom to finally be able to stand together and say their vows to one another, was an emotional experience for them both.

So on to the wedding!  One of the best things about late spring has to be the bluebells and the vibrant green woodlands.  Throw in a wedding and we’re in heaven!

Tom’s childhood home is in West Sussex so it was a natural choice for the wedding to take place there.  They chose the most gorgeous little church, nestled amongst a forest clearing.  There were deer skipping past as we arrived!  It was magical!

Tom and Nicky wanted their day to be relaxed with a timeless rustic country style.  They found a gorgeous Sussex barn for the reception, with acres of fields for camping and kids to explore.  A stroke of genius was to ask the wonderful ladies at Macmillan Cancer Support to take care of the reception welcome drinks and all the food (with the exception of a lamb spit roast).  It was a great way for Nicky and Tom to give back for the support they received, and those ladies did an incredible job!!

Having family and friends together was their priority, although having the Plymouth based band Land of Giants was a big priority too!! The wedding could only happen if the band agreed to play!

To create their relaxed summer party vibe, we supplied them with games, signage, table décor and props.  The Tug O War and Sack Races were hilarious and as always proved popular with all ages! Considering many of the guests were ultra runners, it got pretty competitive!

Newcomers to the Cornish wedding scene, Wild Tipi, offer incredible Nordic style tipis and bell tents for weddings and events.  The husband and wife team have wonderful passion for their new venture and we’re sure they’ll be a huge success, especially as demand for the giant tipis grows.

We were thrilled to be asked to style their launch photoshoot, featuring some of Cornwall’s best wedding suppliers and photographed by the very lovely Olivia Bossert.

The tipis have a wonderful honey light inside them, and a simple neutral colour pallet works well.  We chose a pallet of warm metallic and soft grey for the table to compliment the tipis environment.

Sisters Emily and Lucy from 3 Acre Blooms brought our table to life with a variety of seasonal white florals grown on their farm a few miles from the shoot location.  Our vintage wooden ladder looked incredible adorned with their foliage and fragrant herbs strung above the table.

The sheepskins added a sumptuous softness to all the seating and lined the cutest bell tent you’ll ever see!

Ideas For Your Drinks Reception

Spring is just around the corner, which for brides and grooms means it’s time to start planning those smaller details.

Quite an important part of the day will be the drinks reception, and the way you serve them reflects the kind of atmosphere you wish to create.  Smartly dressed serving staff carrying silver trays filled with flutes of fizz suggest a highly sophisticated feel.  For a more relaxed affair, jars of self serve cocktails such as Pimms and Mojito, teamed with a cloudy lemonade works well.

If choosing a self-serve drinks station, take some time to think about how you want it to look.  Make it inviting and reflective of your style.  A rustic barrel bar works well for garden party vibes, while a vintage lemonade stand adds colour and a sense of nostalgia.  Add shelving, crates, furniture to the bar to create height and space for extra glasses and bottles.

When day turns to night, having a fully licenced pay bar may be the way to go if you don’t wish to pay for your guests after dinner drinks.  Always ensure everyone knows they will need some pennies though.  If however you’re happy to pick up the tab, filling large metal baths with ice and packing them with beer and white wine, is a great way to keep everything cool without hiring in refrigeration.

Don’t forget, every bar will need signage to tell guests what’s on offer.  Light up signage works well on an evening drinks bar, adding atmosphere and style.

A Garden Wedding at Cosawes Barton

On the edge of pretty village of Ponsanooth, just a few short miles from the south Cornish coast lies the wonderful 17th Century Cosawes Barton.  A fairly new venue to the Cornish wedding scene, it offers not only 5* accommodation but also extensive woodlands, meadow, marquee lawn and formal flower gardens.

The very lovely Sophie and her beau, Joe, came to us while planning the outdoor space for their wedding. Their wedding very much embraced the natural beauty of its surroundings.  They chose to marry under Cosawes bespoke arbour, at the end of a long natural aisle, flanked by a woodland grove.

Their Absolute Canvas marquee was nestled amongst the trees leaving a large lawn space to the front.  Plenty of space to be filled with mingling guests, and our famous games!

Sophie chose a wide selection of our fun and games, including our Fairground Peep Board, lawn games and coconut shy, to keep guests entertained.  For those wishing to bask in the late summer sun, Sophie chose a selection of our deckchairs, and our much loved bundle of knit blankets to lay over hay bales.

Jen and Rich’s Romantic Fortress Wedding

One of the most romantic venues in Cornwall,  Polhawn Fort stands in an area of outstanding natural beauty on the Rame Peninsula.

Jenny and Rich’s elegant summer wedding took full advantage of all this stunning place has to offer.

We first started chatting with Jenny about her wedding back in Summer 2015.  She had so many fantastic ideas for hers and Rich’s day and it was an absolute pleasure working all the little details through with her.

polhawn-fort-box-and-cox33

The couple were married in a local church, before inviting guests to their cliff top fortress for a fun filled, foodie reception.

The couple chose to set up a rustic drinks station for their guests to enjoy self-serving their own summer drinks.  Drinks jars for cocktails, tin baths as ice buckets, create an on-trend look.

Outdoor seating continued the rustic vibe with hay bales encircling a fire pit.  Jenny chose to top the bales with our hessian sacks for a little extra comfort for guests.

Our Seaside Peep Board, fete and lawn games were set up on Polhawn’s lower terrace.  They went down a storm with young and old alike, and created plenty of laughter.

A DIY photobooth was created in an arched doorway.  Jenny hung our gold frame and used our fancy dress suitcase for guests to snap some memorable photos!

Dancing the night away to live music rounded off the incredible day, our illuminated BAR sign adding to the atmosphere of the evenings festivities.

Congratulations Jen and Rich xx

Anna and Jonathan’s Country House Wedding

The marriage of Anna and Jonathan took place at the picture perfect St Clement Church near Truro.  The couple hosted their reception at Scorrier House, a beautiful country house which offers couples exclusive use for weddings.

Anna’s vision was one of elegance and sophistication with some vintage touches running throughout the styling. We worked with Anna for many months, exchanging emails about all the fine details until everything was just perfect!

Following the church service, guests were invited to meander through the historic gardens of Scorrier House, guided by our traditional signage, to the drinks reception.  Our Rustic Bar awaited them laid out with bubbly and canapés, whilst our Gramophone prop sat upon our Writing Desk (cleverly concealing speakers creating the illusion!).

Garden games were enjoyed before guests headed inside for the wedding breakfast and dancing!  Our illuminated BAR sign looked at home behind Scorrier House’s purpose built bar area, and created a fun vibe for the evenings festivities.
